Dexter: New Blood first episode review

We find Dexter living in a very cold northern American town, where it turns out he knows this small community. Although he seems to be suffering still from some sort of PTSD, delusions he does seem to be managing to live a normal life. However, it went downhill for him when the rich spoilt kid returns.

I do recommend to understand some points of the show you really need to watch the original series.

The setting, the ambiance, there is some mystery here and a few quandaries thrown in. Dexter already has a love interest with a police woman, will this come in handy or can it be a hinderance?

The rich kid turns out to have all that disgusts Dexter and he turns to what he knows to do best. Make people disappear!

His son also turns up, at first, he turns him away then goes to him at the end. How this will play out remains to be seen.

The original show I thought was a master-piece into mental health. Although somewhat healed, it remains to see how f**cked up Dexter and this show is going to get. I am enjoyed the original, I can cope with some gore as long as it’s not too much. I do feel if you saw and enjoyed the previous incarnation you will like this one.

Eternals film review

The film starts off with the Eternals going to Earth and saving the evolutionary human race. It turns out there are far greater evils yet again and even bigger villains. Certain elements feel cliché, it was fighting then calm…

Rather boring calm, the backing sound track of the movie really wasn’t that great and didn’t elevate it one bit.

I liked seeing my hometown of London, and every part they filmed I knew exactly where they were as I had been to those parts of London. However, I thought it extremely odd why there was a classroom in the National History Museum! That were we meet Kit Harington (from Game of Thrones) who has a small role in this movie. Seems a waste…

Then we are off on an adventure, or not so much of one.

There are good parts to the film, but it felt patchy. Hero’s, anti-hero’s it all felt a blur. The acting at times I thought was dreadful. The worse being Angelina Jolie who played Thena, who was cold, emotionless and boring! Even anger is an emotion and I didn’t feel any real anger in the film.

A lot of the Marvel films have rewatch value. I can’t say the same for this.

Squid Games first episode review

I wanted to know what all the hype was, but I don’t think I could take this type of show.

My character is very anti-gambling and this appears to be the first episode in a nut shell. Gambling is a curse, it gets you into trouble, in debt and tears your family apart. This happens to the main character, starting off talking about his family already torn apart by his addiction. He then goes bets on the horse, he does get lucky, get robbed, the gangsters are after him.

Shit just continues to happen and when he goes to get onto a train he simply falls into another trap. This time to a smartly dress gentleman who has a brief case of money and some strange game. The trap just continues, how can the main character be so stupid, he must be desperate to be that stupid.

The last part of the episode is just a gore-fest. You either like that type of television or you don’t. This is where I felt sick! I’ve never liked horror, or zombie films. I like the movie Interview with the Vampire. However, seeing people get shot to bits… No, this isn’t for me.

They basically just put all these gamblers, desperate people into a great big box room to play a sick game and shoot them all to death. How is this TV, I didn’t understand the concept and I frankly refuse to continue watching any more.

James Bond: No Time to Die film review

As I sat down I felt I needed the toilet. The intro of the film was brilliant, starting off in a cold climate, not knowing what was going to happen. A man with a gun turns up to kill a drugged out mother and her daughter who I didn’t want to see die and I was covering my eyes to avoid that..

During that scene I noticed a ring on a table, this ring had the Spectre emblem on it. I don’t even know if anyone else in the cinema noticed this, which I knew instantly that this mother and daughter at the beginning were related to that organisation some how.

I did have to run to the toilet during the music sequence so I missed that!

Next we visit James Bond in another beautiful location who appears to be enjoying life. His adventures with woman do land him in hot water. This is even more evident half way through the film when it turns out he has a daughter. It’s probably why I hate the ending of the film so much. He was a character to never be a settled down or be a married man, but even still. I prefer happier endings. They wouldn’t allow him to settle and start a family, no… What we have is a good film with a Japanese inspired ending… death. The ultimate way to end a character.

With a female 007 and another death of a famous character of Felix Leiter, the studio really are keen on burning this James Bond universe to the ground.

I felt rather upset by that and that’s why I am going to removed one whole point off the review score!! There are elements of the film which felt cliché, but you can’t fault the acting or execution of this creation. It’s cleverly made and other than the ending I enjoyed most of it.

Dune (2021) film review

I had thought the trailer looked amazing and I went into the cinema hoping for something good but I felt bored by the whole film! I found the sound and music slightly too loud with the feature, having an unbalanced effect.

Years ago I have read the first three books that Frank Herbert wrote. I really enjoyed them and found his writing easy to read and lots of underlining philosophy. This isn’t really translated to the film. It’s just a brooding mess of hormones with a load of special effects.

The acting was boring, emotionless, static and stale. The characters show strength and that’s about it. At times I was checking my watch and wondering should I walk out of the cinema! It wasn’t my cup of tea.

Star Wars: Visions review

In two evenings I binged watched the nine episodes. The very first episode was my favourite of the lot. The animation style was amazing, black and white, with the colour of the blasters and lightsabers thrown in. The Japanese anime style of the whole series in a master stroke. I am very much reminded of the series Samurai Jack which I believe is a master piece and a must for any anime fan.

My next favourite episode was called The Elder, the wickedly evil Sith who came for his last battle. He destroyed his ship so his secrets do not get into enemy hands. But with his death, did his soul evolve into another level of being? I was reminded when Obi-wan evolved and was this the same fate of this master?

I am not a fan of Pokémon, I find that cheesy and camp, to which some episodes had a slight feel of this free going spirit which is not for me. Overall I was pretty satisfied and felt two episodes needed a sequelto finish off the story on those particular visions.

This series is a must watch for all the Star Wars / Anime fans.

Free Guy movie review

I wasn’t so sure when the movie started, it seemed odd, weird, but as the film went on, it made more sense. The film starts with Ryan Reynolds who plays Guy on a set routine, he seems to have a happy life as a banker, although being robbed every day doesn’t faze or change, not until he see’s the girl he wants.

That changes everything, the story then branches off between two worlds, the game world and then you see the real world. From game developers, to game streamers (who are real life streamers!) There are a bunch of cameos and lots of cultural references embedded in the film. There is even an in your face Deadpool poster behind one character.

Reynolds quickly becomes more himself when released out of his code in order to evolve. The evolution begins in two steps, finding the girl, then when he finds out about the glasses which gives his character total control over his environment. This is where I should probably shut up as I would easily give the rest of the story away.

There was one moment in the script where they go over aspects between the two worlds, “No guns are still a problem”. That does hit home, even in the U.S. But I doubt a note like that will have much effect on any politician.

A few times in the movie there was this real cheesiness, Taika Waititi who plays the bad guy Antwan, really doesn’t feel that evil at all. But then, this is more of a fun family movie.

Marvels What If…?

Having watched the pilot I am reminded of one programme that aired years ago. That would be The Outer Limits.

The Outer Limits was an interesting TV show, with stories, often with an narrator, stories to make you think, feel and question reality as we know it.

What If shares this pattern of story telling, it appears to turn elements on its head, but the problem is the carbon copy. You appear to have the same story of Captain America told in a different perspective.

Hello Captain Carter, I liked seeing the Union Jack on the shield, being that I am British. It’s a shout to British patriotism, but I found the character flat and unsexy. The reverse of the love affair didn’t seem to work for me either, felt unbalanced.

I don’t know how other people felt with the pilot. But I was a little underwhelmed, it was well done, the animation was top quality. But the story felt lacking. I was hoping for it to be different. Hoping for a more unique feel, however I wasn’t too impressed. I will be hoping next weeks episode will be better.

Bye bye paypal

Since eBay and PayPal parted ways, I was wondering whats the point of keeping my PayPal account. So… I have decided to close my account today. I was wondering how many other people are closing their accounts. Paypal is still used for some things, but there are more direct ways to pay online these days. Paypal is slowly becoming redundant. It’s on a lifeline in my opinion, will it follow flash player?

My neighbour crashing over!!

It’s 1:30am and it’s bang, bang, bang at my front door waking me out of a dead sleep, my neighbour who smokes wants to get into his place from mine!! Well that can’t happen now as there is a brick wall in the way!

The smell was pungent and horrible, as I don’t smoke it effects me even more making me feel ill. So I let him sleep on my sofa till he can get his key tomorrow.

He is a big boy and the snoring was like having an elephant over, but it wasn’t till 3:25am when I hear this huge bang. He had pulled down my DVD/CD IKEA shelves. Thinking it was a door! The contents had gone everywhere.

The collection although not a lot was in alphabetical and category order!

Took me about three hours to put all back how I like it. Found a few bits to throw away and a few DVDs for the charity shop. That’s my night… mare and morning burned!
