Since the American quarter back took a knee in protest, this symbol has spread around the would as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.
I never truly understood why people want to follow this pattern. As in old English and the time of shivery, one takes a knee to show respect, take an honour and to serve. Before royalty one takes a knee to receive an honour such as a knighthood.
To receive in honour. To serve.
So why are we changing an age old custom to suit a new modern interpretation? The Cambridge English dictionary have added this action, this summary to their dictionary.
Have we changed that much that we are willing to throw out the old meanings? Has modern vocabulary now change? I don’t know about how others interpret this, I am certainly not keen to see such action. I still see, to bow before, or take a knee and interpret that towards “to serve” even it’s with honour.
We want to break the bonds of servitude, treat others how you want to be treated by others. I find the movement for Black Lives Matter hypocritical, as I believe that all lives matter. And I am against taking a knee, we should all stand together as equals and bend to no man.
