The noise above

At times I wonder how deaf the couple are above me! They moved in six months ago or so and at times I can’t stand the noise. This little woman with a face like a grandma walks around with this thud, thud, thud, that reminds me of the original robocop films. I really can’t understand how a girl who is only about 5″3′ can make so much noise! I also found out she is deaf in one ear since birth. And there is me, born with the opposite problem. I can hear high-pitch sounds off the chart which most people can’t hear. In my early 20s one night while playing a game on my computer with music on in my bedroom, I heard an old-man shouting for help from the house right the other end of the two gardens, the other side of the block. These gardens are 100 foot long, so that’s over 200 foot away.

The poor old man, had fallen over out back, was lying on the cold ground when me and my dad found him. A lot of people said I saved his life.

So here I am, with my advanced hearing having to cope with people in my immediate vicinity who are deaf and listening to their TV and music. I swear, they took out good sound proofing and put in crap. There is me downstairs in a lovely homey flat, but now I feel I might have to move. I’ve tried to talk to the girl, but she has just been rude back. I am loosing all respect for the couple above me and I am not sure how to deal with it.

So please, if anyone has any good suggestions on how to talk to a person like this please let me know. I’ll try to be diplomatic, but she thinks I am always complaining!

Twitter wants my phone number!

I had one twitter account, I deleted that! Then I resigned up for twitter because I wanted to follow some celebrities I like. For a while it was fine, I didn’t do anything wrong. Hadn’t used twitter in good while, recently when I loaded up on the app on my iPhone I noticed my account was blocked. So I emailed twitter, and after a few attempts and not one human reply from the company my account was unblocked.

After one like I did, I went back on, this time they want to verify me, but how they want to verify who I am just annoys me. They want my mobile number! I get enough phone calls from scammers, so why the hell do I want to give a company with historically bad security my mobile. And why on Earth does a company that has no need for mobile numbers what your mobile number. This is just floored in all aspects in my view. You can verify through email, many other companies do that and don’t ask for a mobile number.

So at the moment I refuse to verify via giving them my phone number, which just means I am still blocked!

In my view Twitter is providing a false log, an invalid block, followed by a verification system to silicate your phone number. I fear they are acting like criminals to silicate your information. Whats next, are they going to sell that information to the highest bidder? Or just get hacked by someone else, so that other criminal can get everyones phone number!

Mill Hill to Edgware train walk

Following on from my last walk, this time I found the entrance in Lydhurst Park to the second part of the train line walkway. It seems a lot less people know about this part of the train line walk. Which can only be accessed on weekends.

I entered via the entrance to the park just off of Bunn’s Lane. This was about the location of where Mill Hill the Hale station use to be, which is a stones through from Mill Hill Broadway.

You can see a trench of dense brambles and woodland running along the right side of the park and if you walk the path and follow it you can if not immediately find the entrance to the walk. It is somewhat hidden, there is a little foot path over a small brook leading to a hidden gate.

Part of the old track, there are lots of these posts.

The foliage is dense in places but opens up in others. It really does run between the houses!

The end in sight!

The ending of the route is somewhat disappointing, I came out on the A1509, there is another road opposite which looks like private access to the Edgware terminus which I didn’t go down as I don’t want to trespass! However I turned right and walked the road back up and round. There is a massive church, which I thought was a bit of an eye-saw. Then after some roundabouts there is a pub called the Railway Tavern, (unfortunately closed) I don’t know the history, it must have some relation to the old project of the Northern Heights. So I walked past that and back down to Mill Hill.

Bye Bye Adobe Flash Player

I first started using the internet back in 1996 when my mum brought a Compaq Presario with it’s built-in 28.8BPS modem and that lovely electronic dial sound when you connected to the internet.

Some of the first things I remember was connecting to Compuserve, a group of forums to connect, chat, exchange idea’s. I also had one game called Panzer General which had this option play by mail. Sending details of your movements to friends over email. Waiting hours for the counter attack!

Then came the webpages! In the web browser there was an option where you can view the source code of how the webpages were created, this is how I learned HTML and it was a pretty easy computer language to learn. Then I learned CSS and after that I found adobe plugins. This is where I was able to do web animation, I didn’t do a lot, but some fun stuff and Flash Player could play that. All the way back in 1996.

So recently when I saw that Adobe were ending the life cycle of the Flash Player, I actually felt somewhat sad to hear this. This little piece of software has been a mainstay for a long time. Adobe arrived with the boom, and survived the burst. It most likely played videos from 30 seconds of animation to 30 minutes or more of a documentary. You will be missed Flash Player, but you will not be forgotten.

Train line walk Mill Hill East to Mill Hill

In the 1930s Mill Hill East tube station ran through all the way to Edgware tube station with one station called Mill Hill the Hale which didn’t last very long at all. This station was adjacent to Mill Hill Broadway station.

I’ve lived in the area for over 10 years now and I’ve finally walked round and did the first part of the route.

If you come out of Mill Hill East tube station you can walk round and up to see where the track finishes, then you can follow where the line would have gone through. A few bridges aline the route, then you walk between Metro golf course on one side with a football power league centre on the other side. Finally the end of the route terminates into Page Street.

Second underpass
A blocked underpass under Page Street

I took some other photos of graffiti but not enough of the route. The are lots of trees on either side. On the other side of Mill Hill there is Lyndhurst Park, from there you can walk all the way through to Edgware to continue the train line route and I would like to walk that next time.

Google Local Guide socks!

A good while back when I first used google maps I noticed a number of things wrong locally so I decided to fix some bad pointing, reported a few businesses which no longer exist and provided a few reviews on some local restaurants. I really don’t know how long it had been or what criteria I completed on the local google guide but I got an email saying I had earned some socks!

At first I thought this was a joke or spam, so I did a web search, surprisingly on google! And I saw that many people have earned their socks. So I went back to the email checked and it looked safe enough. I thought it would ask me to pay for P&P but no it didn’t only my address! So I guess in my view I took a gamble.

Three weeks later…

They arrived!

They said one size, so at first I thought they looked a bit big, but they fit my UK size 7 feet fine. I am rather happy with them, not bad for a little freebie.

In case people are interested they are made of 69% cotton, 29% Polyamide and 2% Elastane. Hopefully they won’t become itchy! I nearly always wear 100% cotton!!

Star Wars Squadrons without the playstation!

I pre-ordered Star Wars Squadrons a while back because I am a big Star Wars fan, however I’ve sent my PS4 to Sony because I’ve been having problems with the machine. Originally my PS4 stopped all-together and didn’t work or load up at all. So I had sent it to be repaired. Now it’s back there and I got a new game here and no machine to play it on!! 😦

There is irony here, somewhere!

Cobra Kai and Karate Kid

Yesterday I watched the final few episodes of Cobra Kai and boy did the last episode of season two turn into a war zone in the school. I am not sure I’ve ever seen anything else like it.

The character development really draws you in from the start. Johnny who was the bad guy in the first film is really the main character here. You are drawn in and you really do feel for the guy. His problems feel real, but his bad luck comes and goes with some good luck and more bad luck.

As the show went on you get drawn in and feel more involved, there are very few programs on TV which have this. Game of Thrones had you and this does as well.

Another aspect of Cobra Kai is the Romeo and Juliet story, with two different characters falling in love with each other from rival families. And if you watch carefully, there are three different RoJ stories in the show.

Now because of watching that, today I’ve just watched Karate Kid, 1, 2 and 3 on Amazon Prime and realised I’ve actually never seen the third one. I enjoyed the films but on each one I felt there could of been more of a solid ending.

If you’re a fan of the original films and have Netflix I highly recommend watching the show.

Take a knee?

Since the American quarter back took a knee in protest, this symbol has spread around the would as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

I never truly understood why people want to follow this pattern. As in old English and the time of shivery, one takes a knee to show respect, take an honour and to serve. Before royalty one takes a knee to receive an honour such as a knighthood.

To receive in honour.  To serve.

So why are we changing an age old custom to suit a new modern interpretation? The Cambridge English dictionary have added this action, this summary to their dictionary.

Have we changed that much that we are willing to throw out the old meanings? Has modern vocabulary now change? I don’t know about how others interpret this, I am certainly not keen to see such action. I still see, to bow before, or take a knee and interpret that towards “to serve” even it’s with honour.

We want to break the bonds of servitude, treat others how you want to be treated by others. I find the movement for Black Lives Matter hypocritical, as I believe that all lives matter. And I am against taking a knee, we should all stand together as equals and bend to no man.
